Admittedly there are a few uber rare unique ancestral and Crimson Court trinkets that can give the moon and sun items a run for their money, but even on my saves where I can arm pretty much any trinket I could want I still find myself running 3 or 4 sun or moon rings each time I go out. It's the fact that the sun and moon trinkets are just so much better than pretty much everything else you can put on an offensive character. You can certainly go into even champion level dungeons without any trinkets at all and still come out alright. It's not so much that it's impossible to do a dungeon without moon and sun rings. Im currently at the end of my first run, after that i will start a bloodmoon playthrough and im pretty sure that sun ring will be one of those trinkets that im going to rush for. The doggies have high dodge and i admittedly struggle without them. I sometimes take two sun rings in my compositions, especially when im going to the Warrens. But its a good item for starters, who dont know all the mechanics yet, and are still in the learning process. I mean lets be serious: If you think Sun Ring is overpowered, just dont take it with you. I agree, that sun ring is definitely not a necessary trinket, if you are well prepared, BUT taking it opens the gate to playing much more experimental compositions, that might not work without, which in my opinion is a lot of fun. Leper is one of those, simply because his abilities have a lower base accuracy compared to others. There are some characters, where a sun ring is pretty much necessary in my opinion. It all depends on the difficulty, the dungeon, the composition, the abilities you want to use and the quirks.
